Even as technology plays a greater role in maintenance in particular and manufacturing in general, there are still many barriers to adoption. The study found that 48% of maintenance managers say a lack of resources of staff keeps them from improving their maintenance success, and 38% cite a lack of understanding of new technology options.
Below are a few conclusions of the 2019 Plant Engineering Maintenance Study, an annual survy sponsored by Advanced Technology Services.

Aging equipment, which can lead to mechanical failure, along with operator error leads to 75% of unscheduled downtime. this is across the board and one of the most costly of issues with manufacturing.
Many facilities look to upgrading equipment, training and other maintenace processes to decrease their downtime.
